Do you enjoy rape? We know, that's an outrageous question, because no one except for a few sexually deviant freaks would actually enjoy rape. So why is it that the writers suddenly think we'd enjoy watching Sami Brady Roberts interact with, and even worse, appear to trust her rapist? Why is she even allowed to be alone with the man? The Sami/Elvis rape storyline on Days has been mishandled since the very beginning. However in the past 2 weeks the situation has degraded into something completely unpalatable, and immediate action needs to be taken. With that in mind, we've come up with a "RAPE IS NOT ROMANCE" Campaign. Unlike our "normal" campaigns, this one has very little to do with Lumi, and everything to do with stopping Days from going down a path from which there would be no safe return. The key message that we want to get across to TPTB at Days and the magazines (SOD/SOW) is very simple: RAPE IS NOT ROMANCE! In order to get that message to TPTB, the soap press and the soap community in general, we need everyone's help. We've designed some banners (attached below) which we would like everyone to display in their siggies at other message boards, wherever possible (ie Fallin', NBC, Soap City). The same banners also make wonderful letterheads when inserted into a word processor. Because we want everyone to write often, we've designed additional letterheads (also attached below). We would love it if everyone could send at least as many letters as there are letterheads and banners. We know that more than a few of you have lots to say on the subject and won't have any problems composing letters, but just in case you're stuck, here are some key ideas/questions to focus on when writing: Rape is not romantic and should never be portrayed as such. What kind of message is the show trying to send to the survivors of rape when it has Sami trusting with her rapist? What kind of message is the show trying to send to its younger, more impressionable audience? Where is the social responsibility factor? Days proved they could do a socially responsible storyline with the "Green" wedding. Why can't they also do a socially responsible storyline about the effects of rape? The potential damage done to the character integrity of Sami Roberts, now a two-time rape survivor. I've been emailing Dena Higley Letting her know exactly what i feel about what she's done to not only our beloved Characters But what she's done to Sami we all watched the same show and we all saw a women who was being held against her will and forced to make love to this rapist. we saw how Dena Higley Wrote Ej and sami to fall in love and have this incredible Magical Passionate Love affair, Not realizing that this was Forced we even know that johnny was conceived out of rape and not love... I'm glad this is being done it's about time we stood up and let them know that this is not right and that TPTB need to hear this.. and second Dena Higley needs to be fired and never to write for a soap again

This campaign has never stopped - that's why it's sticked to the top of the board. Keep writing to TPTB at Days, to NBC, to the magazines. It's something that we won't stop doing until the show addresses the issue properly. It doesn't have to be long - just remind them that rape victims don't love their rapists. |

Someone pointed out a great RINR banner that was being sported by the Safe fans. I got the creators permission to use it. Watch it all, as it's very eye opening.![]() With the creative rewriting of Sami's and EJ's history, it's time to remind tiic that even if they have forgotten, we have not. |

I'm new on this site, and I agree. Rape is not love. I cannot believe the writers would be foolish to sell this kind of rapemance. A victim and a rapist do not mix for romance, it is beyond disgusting and is showing a horrible example for rape victims out there. |

IF TIIC ever decide to have Sami and the rapist together then I believe nothing will hold the message from going everywhere again. |

I could not believe the dribble I saw last night on the boards. One person said that Sami had a choice to be raped. I thought my eyes were deceiving me. So I just had to reply. Some people are just so clueless. |

What a truly disgusting thing to watch, that Whoopi Goldberg clip. "Now, I wouldn't want my fourteen-year-old to have sex, but..." Hello? She didn't have sex, she was drugged and raped! And why the heck would the supposed lack of responsibility from the mother, or the way teenage girls are shown in the media today, make Polanski any less of a rapist? Rape is rape is rape. And if the victim has become a survivor and managed to go on with her life, that doesn't make what was done to her any less of a crime. |

It was rape in every sense. By law, the child was too young to have had "consentual" sex even if she wasn't drugged. Since she was drugged, it wasn't "consentual" in any meaning of the word. Roman Polanski took the child's ability to choose away from her the same as any other rapist uses force to do it. There needs to be a nationwide outreach to educate the entire public on what rape really is, since clearly so many "influential" (and ignorant) adults are baffled by it. At any rate, ignorance of the law is still no excuse... neither is the fact the he claims "it just happened" and wasn't planned on his part... whatever... I have no sympathy for him at all.
